For a brief moment in our nation’s history after a young man named Jared Loughner committed a horrific act of domestic terrorism by killing several people, including a federal judge, and injuring others at a U.S. Congresswoman’s appearance in Tuscon, Arizona the media and Democrats screamed for civility when it was wrongly believed Loughner was a right wing extremist. Shortly after Loughner’s manifesto was revealed and it became apparent Loughner was simpatico with our nation’s left wing, the calls for civility subsided and Democrats and the Left resumed their time honored tradition of incivility and the politics of personal destruction. During the recent debt crisis the media and the Democrats went after the Tea Party for their common sense desire to reduce our nation’s debt and reign in government spending, the natural order of things when deficits and debt are raging out of control and unsustainable. It is now known that the Standard & Poor’s downgrade of U.S. Debt would not have occurred had the Tea Party inspired “Cut, Cap and Balance” bill been passed by the U.S. Senate and signed into law by President Obama. Instead the Democrats resorted to their toddler tantrums and demanded compromise (with what no one knows since they never submitted a bill or a plan) resulting in a watered down bill that fails to address the rating agencies’ concerns, specifically spiraling debt and escalating costs of entitlement programs. Additionally, with their antics the Democrats made it obvious to the world that these problems will not be solved in the near future. Now the Politico reports that the Democrats and Obama are planning their presidential reelection campaign to be more of the same; “Destroy Romney." This is striking not only since Democrats and the media constantly opine that the coveted “Independents” loathe the incivility and politics of personal destruction, but it is wildly hypocritical. Apparently such loathing by Independents does not occur when the media and Democrats themselves are the purveyors of the incivility. History has seen one conservative after another subjected to the utter disrespect, personal destruction and incivility of the Left time and time again; Ronald Reagan, Robert Bork, Clarence Thomas, Dan Quayle, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, the list goes on and on. In large part the Democrats and media are able to get away with these tactics because the Republicans are inept in their efforts to combat the Liberal smear machine. It is high time that Republicans form a war room to plan their strategy to expect such attacks and be prepared to respond immediately and in kind. In response to the Politico article, Governor Romney must do a few basic things: First, do not release any Personal or Professional Records until Obama releases his, and only on a one for one basis. Second, when accused of being “weird,” construe it as an attack on his Mormon religion and contrast to the weirdness of Obama’s twenty-year attendance in Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s church. Third, when challenged on Romney’s former businesses and jobs record, compare it to Obama’s record on jobs. Point out his tendency to place his legacy ahead of our nation’s well being by ramming through Obamacare and thousands of other misguided regulations responsible for destroying our nation’s economy and jobs. In response to any accusations of being beholden to “the special interests,” educate the American people on how Obama squandered the Stimulus turning it into a money laundering operation that funneled money to unions in exchange for campaign contributions and votes. Remind the nation that when asked recently about those “shovel ready jobs” he laughed and said, “I guess they weren’t as shovel ready as I thought”. Fourth, emphasize the fact that Obama’s actions in office depict a tremendous fundamental lack of understanding about economics and the role of the federal government. Use this as an opportunity to educate the American people on the constitutional role of the federal government and our nation’s founding principles. Fifth, any discussion of flip flopping should lead directly to assailing Obama on his doublespeak in several areas; Sen. Obama’s refusal to vote to raise debt limit saying it denoted a lack of leadership by the president, failure to follow through on promises like closing GITMO, holding domestic trials for terrorists, ending the war in Iraq (reminding people he hasn’t gone beyond President Bush’s status of forces agreement timetable), promises of transparency while the Obamacare and debt debates, as well as other policy meetings were held secretly. Obama promised to reach across the aisle but once elected he told Republicans, “I won, you lost”. If intelligence is questioned, have an army of surrogates remind people of Obama’s comments on having visited all 57 states, how he promised to reduce healthcare by 3,000 percent, how he couldn’t pronounce United States Marine “Corps” and instead called it “Corpse”, his misspeak calling an inhaler a breathalyzer at a town hall meeting and his statements accusing Doctors of cutting off limbs and removing organs for money. Romney must loudly dispel any inference that the economy Obama inherited was a result of Republican policy. Immediately cite the book, “Reckless Endangerment” and point out the responsibility for the housing collapse is largely owned by the misguided schemes, policies and actions of Democrats in and out of government. And finally, stay on the offensive! At the very least when Obama attacks on an issue, counterattack with matching force to blunt his message. It is time for the Republicans to stop cowering to the Democrats and the media and fight back in a tough and coordinated way. A war room filled with graduates from our nation’s war colleges working with Republican political operatives can combat the onslaught from the Democrats and their media accomplices. Republicans cannot be afraid to attack Obama and the Democrats with considerable force on each and every issue. Fight back using the same Saul Alinsky tactics the Democrats have been using for decades. Obama is a failed president who has divided our nation and destroyed its economy. Four more years of the destruction Obama has wrought upon our fellow citizens is inconceivable. Republicans must conduct the upcoming presidential campaign as though the lives and fortunes of our children and grandchildren, as well as the fate of our great nation rely on defeating Obama…Because they do!
