The President

There are seven hopefuls who are likely going to formally announce their candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, within the next week and many more who are contemplating a run.  None of them invoke an emotional, if not polarizing response quite like “The Donald.”  It is early yet, but the only Republican hopeful who has broken from the reserved, almost polite rhetoric of the early stump speeches in Iowa and New Hampshire, and the government-as-usual policy discussions on the Sunday media carousel, has been Donald Trump.  By removing the shackles of political correctness and “media-speak,” Mr. Trump tossed a few verbal hand grenades into the throng of Obama-friendly, group-think media sycophants, who were waiting with bated breath to “expose” Trump as just another self-hyped blowhard.  What they got instead was a free talker with more knowledge and experience in creating jobs and foreign trade than every Senate and Congressional Democrat, combined.  What they got was a man unafraid to call into question the tremendous, unprecedented lack of experience of our current president. And what they got was a man who no Democrat wants to go “toe to toe”  with in an economic debate.

In the throes of a severe economic crisis, the political climate is ripe for a candidate who can speak plainly and logically to the American people about bringing jobs back to America, creating American prosperity, and restoring America’s world economic position.  After eight years of a president who failed to articulate any principled economic philosophy and more than two years of a president who has a principled economic philosophy but must keep it hidden from American voters with lies and deceit, Trump can stand out with his ability to communicate directly to voters with language they understand

While it is true that Donald Trump has not officially announced his candidacy, and there is a risk that he is making the talk show rounds simply to promote his television show, a possible Trump presidential campaign is intriguing, in that it would force other candidates to speak boldly about President Obama’s failures and returning America to its Capitalist roots.  The subject of President Obama’s birth certificate has been mostly off-limits for those who wish to avoid the wrath of the Obama-friendly media.  Refreshingly, Trump is facing the Obama media head on, with his questions about why the president has spent so much money and time keeping his birth certificate, college records, and health records from the public eye.   Trump not only asks these questions of the president, but he asks mainstream reporters why they have not been the least bit interested in vetting Barack Obama as thoroughly as they have other presidential candidates.  With Donald Trump the best defense is a good offense, and that is a strategy the other Republican hopefuls had better understand this time if they want the backing of the expanding Tea Party.

Why is the Tea Party now playing such a vital role in American Politics?  Its members are angry and fed up with both parties – they have reached a tipping point on the size of the Federal Government. They have grown tired of politicians playing “footsie” with the media, and they are tired of politicians compromising on the future of this once-great nation.  Trump echoes these concerns better than the so-called frontrunners; he has an uncanny knack of cutting through the demagoguery and the rhetoric to get right to the heart of an issue.  While President Obama can read a teleprompter in front of television cameras for an hour, while actually saying very little, Trump can speak from the heart for five minutes and address just about every major issue affecting our economy.

Donald Trump detractors, and there are many, talk about bankruptcies and failed business deals, his arrogance, and his unique way of self-promoting.  They say he is unelectable, and will only run to feed his giant ego.  It is true that Mr. Trump has a rather brash way about him, he tends to be a self-promoter, and he has a giant ego.  But, name a presidential contender who doesn’t possess these traits.  In fact, Trump has nothing on President Obama in this department. The talking heads will see bankruptcies as a negative, but that is a shallow view.  Anyone who has been through a business bankruptcy has been educated in real-world ways that even a Harvard MBA could not prepare one for.  The taxpayers were never called upon to subsidize Trump like they have the on-the-job training of our current president. The fact that Trump has a record of failures and great successes in the private sector makes him infinitely more qualified than anyone else in the field of contenders, when it comes to what will be the most important issue in 2012 – creating jobs.

For those elitist Republicans who scoff at anyone without an Ivy League degree, Donald Trump has a degree in economics from the prestigious Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.  He has a fine academic record from his time attending the New York Military Academy, through his Ivy League post-graduate degree.  Trump has extensive experience in numerous industries, including real estate, railroads, hotels and resorts, airlines, and more.

If the early ferocious attacks on Mr. Trump, by a unified Mainstream Media are an indication of just how great a threat he would pose to Obama, the country needs a Trump candidacy.

And for those who believe Michelle Obama to have a keen fashion sense, a Trump presidency would bring a first lady with a real sense of fashion straight from the runways of Paris and Milan.

This is America however, and while Donald Trump vs. Barack Obama should be a KO for Trump, the election will be about his hair.
