Traditionally, “Budget Season” for the Federal Government starts in late July and runs through mid-October. During this time, the American people are subjected to demagoguery from both political
parties, as well as the news media- orchestrated parade of victims. It is a time when slight budget increases are referred to as budget cuts, and true budget cuts are reserved only for our military. There is typically talk of reforming, adding or eliminating certain programs or departments. Nothing is certain however, until the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) weighs in on each proposal. Each day in every media report, we are reminded that the OMB is non-partisan, its conclusions and analysis are beyond assail and can be trusted to be above any political slant. The OMB is where the proverbial buck stops on all budgetary projections. These hardworking number-crunchers are trusted to view government programs in a political vacuum, unencumbered by partisan influence.
Since President Obama was sanctified as our leader, Budget Season has been year-round. Can this be related to Global Warming? It is more likely due to the frequent weather pattern in Washington DC known as” El Cabardes,” Spanish for the “The Cowards” which aptly describes the Democrats’ failure to pass a budget. So the OMB has been called upon more than ever for their expert, unbiased analysis, and the news outlets gleefully report to us just how unbiased these government employees are.
Now we discover that these hard-working, non-partisans at the OMB filed a petition to join a labor union. Not a non-partisan, free of political influence labor union, but the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE). Upon examination, the AFGE is anything but non-partisan. In fact, since 2003, there has not been a more partisan labor union than the AFGE. According to followthemoney.org, 100% of the political campaign contributions made by the AFGE from 2003 to 2010 went to Democrats, and not one dollar was contributed to a Republican.
A spokesman for the AFGE assured us that the move is not a signal that these non-partisan workers are unhappy with the OMB, but a sign that they would like more of a voice in how the office is organized and more appreciation for the work they do. Apparently, constantly being placed on a sanctimonious pedestal by the news media is not enough.
Surely these uber-intelligent, non-partisans are aware of the AFGE’s penchant for Left-leaning politicians. They must know that affiliating with such an organization could jeopardize their moniker of “non-partisan.” So why join the AFGE? It could be the influence of President Obama and his affection for militant, Leftist organizations. Or in this era of an insolvent federal government and the worst economy since the Great Depression, these patriotic, unbiased hard workers want to be paid even more money with greater benefits and work less hours.
Or perhaps we can finally unveil these workers for what they really are; typical, inside-the-beltway bureaucrats who favor the same political ideology of the labor union with which they wish to align themselves.
