Thomas Jefferson's faith in the people's ability to govern themselves and his belief in the two-party system led him to conclude that a free press is needed to provide vital information required for an intelligent decision in an election campaign. Thus he encouraged the development of newspapers representing all points of view, and expressed the hope that these journals would be examined critically by the editor and by the public. Today's large media conglomerates, however, may not function naturally as a public forum, where all ideas are shared and available. "The owners and managers of the press determine which persons, which facts, which versions of these facts, shall reach the public," - Commission on the Freedom of the Press-1940.
It was as if children took control of the country when the Democrats and President Obama started their reign, promising to close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp (Gitmo) because it “created more terrorists”, to end the war in Iraq and the Bush tax cuts “for the rich”. There was the “Cheney-Haliburton” mantra, the “War for Oil”, “Bush lied, people died”, the daily front page body counts of military war dead, the promises that if the Democrats were elected in 2006 green energy alternatives would lower gas prices from their $2.50 a gallon “record” high and George Bushes $167 Billion deficits would give way to record surpluses as we experienced in 1999 bringing down George Bush’s “record” $10 Trillion debt. Yes the unemployment was low under George Bush, but the jobs created were only “Hamburger Flipper” jobs with no benefits. Every major newspaper in America parroted the Democrat demagogues on their editorial pages buying into their false narratives and deceitful rhetoric…completely. It’s amazing how quiet the media has become as the Obama Administration has proven itself to be their distorted image of George Bush, on steroids. While virtually all the media criticisms of Bush were the product of lies and exaggerations, the Obama Administration has proven to be the most corrupt and incompetent in the history of our nation. Ironically, the only responsible actions taken by this administration are those in which they continue Bush policies that are in our nation’s vital interests, such as keeping Gitmo open, keeping the Patriot Act intact, pushing Bush's trade agreement with Columbia, continuing to maintain a military presence in Iraq in accordance with the status of forces agreement and subjecting 9/11 terrorists to military tribunals instead of trying them in civilian courts. Yet in the face of all this, the media has ceased to editorialize in these areas, suddenly Gitmo no longer produces more terrorists and military tribunals are the “smart” option. The congressional resolution calling for military action in Iraq cited a host of reasons for going to war, including using weapons of mass destructions to commit genocide against its own people, yet Democrats and the media conveniently and politically focused on only one and ignored all the others, then engaged vociferously in unprecedented levels of treason and sedition. Yet today, when there is only one reason that President Obama provided to the American people for war with Libya, and that reason has since been found to be inaccurate--while the war is being bungled and the rebels we support include sizeable elements of Al Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists--the Democrats and the media fail to criticize Obama and engage in the same incendiary rhetoric. While news organizations were lambasting $167 billion deficits and $8 trillion debt under President Bush, one can hear crickets at the New York Times and Washington Post after three years of $1.5 trillion deficits and a $15 trillion debt under Obama. The press derided Bush's plans to save Social Security with predictable demagoguery, while turning a blind eye to Obama devaluing the U.S. Dollar with inflationary policies. Inflation will harm seniors living on fixed incomes infinitely more than privatizing a small portion of Social Security. And those “hamburger flipper” jobs? McDonalds just announced intentions to add 50,000 of them, prompting Democrats and their media accomplices to joyously celebrate. After Obamacare was passed, McDonalds was one of the first companies to be provided a waiver so they could continue to provide their employees with benefits. Apparently since it is now known that the Democrats and Media were lying about these “hamburger flipper” jobs failing to provide benefits, they have become premium jobs under a Democrat administration. Gas prices are now at $4.00 and climbing, all part of President Obama’s plan he proudly announced during his campaign, admitting that higher gas prices were desirable and that under his energy plan, energy prices would “necessarily skyrocket”. Since taking office he has pumped billions into green energy, closed down deep water drilling, put more oil-producing areas off-limits, and has slow rolled approvals for nuclear plant permits. Where are the media editorials we were subjected to under the Bush years lamenting the “pain at the pump” and the nightly news stories speculating the cause of the increases in oil and gas prices. It seems now that we have a concrete cause—Obama Administration Policies—it would be far easier to editorialize on it. Experts suggest tightening controls on the oil speculation market would help to level prices at the pump, but the Obama Administration rejects these ideas, as they would cost one of its biggest supporters, Goldman-Sachs, billions in lost transaction fees. The Democrats and media always extolled the Cheney-Halliburton connection as a contributor to higher gas prices and corporate cronyism. Yet Obama’s biggest contributors were BP and GE, two corporations that have vested interests in higher gas prices. While Halliburton had no control over oil prices, since they were merely an oil services company, BP is a major international oil company with great influence over price and supply, yet there is no mention in the media concerning Obama’s close relationship with BP. The Libya invasion, though sold to us as a humanitarian venture, is more about European Oil and one of the biggest companies to benefit through our intervention is BP! Where might the Democrat leftists and code pink members with their “war for oil” mantra be now that the mantra is accurate? Why isn’t MSNBC providing press passes to code pink members to attend Obama speeches and disrupt them with their anti-war antics as they did for Republican events? Iraq and Afghanistan are still being fought, has anyone even seen Cindy Sheehan recently? The Obama Administration has provided GE with tax-exempt status and has granted Obamacare waivers to several corporations that contributed heavily to the Obama campaign. Additionally the Obama Administration provided two billion in taxpayer dollars to a Brazilian Oil Company in which Obama’s close friend and campaign contributor George Soros is heavily invested in for deep water drilling, all while they have shut down U.S. deep water drilling. Is the media not the least bit curious about such an association? Apparently when it comes to reporting corruption, Soros is not as intriguing a name as Abramoff. The media double standard extends to presidential recreational activities as well. Early in his presidency, the media deprecated G.W. Bush for golfing, resulting in Bush foregoing the activity for the remainder of his presidency. The media have been curiously mum concerning Obama’s constant golfing, unprecedented number of vacations and weekly White House parties. Seems it’s fine for Democrat presidents to ignore the work of the people and become “aloof”. Possibly after years of bashing all things Bush, the Democrats and the media have become exhausted with the hate and vitriol they continually spewed. Maybe since the Arizona shootings they believed their own words, that our nation must really enter a new era of civility. Or maybe not - the USA Today, on its front page mischaracterizes Congressman Paul Ryan’s budget proposal and quotes Democrats referring to Republicans as “extremists”. And there was no shortage of television cameras ready to broadcst Nancy Pelosi as she dusted off the tried and true Democrat talking points about Republicans starving senior citizens, while fellow Democrat Barack Obama announces draconian cuts and changes to Medicare. So much for the civility angle, some things will never change.
