For decades the Socialists of the world, including their growing ranks in the United States, have embraced Global Warming theory despite its reliance on relatively nascent and tenuous pseudo-

science based predominantly on computer modeling.  Aside from the fact the computer modeling excludes many important climate feedback mechanisms  that tend to moderate actual climate changes in a mere twenty years their theory has transformed from one that predicted a cooling crisis of another ice age to one presently predicting a crisis of warming.  The embrace of such nebulous science with religious fervor is less about climate change than it is about disparate special interest groups seeking to coalesce around a manufactured crisis as a common vehicle through which they can achieve their various ends.  In other words for Liberals, Global Warming is the one issue that has something for everyone.

When they were wrong about cooling in the 1970s, they began pushing warming. Now it appears the climate is again cooling, so the Left has relabeled the looming crisis, “Climate Change."   This alone should cause anyone with a modicum of intelligence to dismiss the entire theory as a hoax, since “change” is what the earth’s climate has done since its inception.  Climate change is not only experienced on earth, but has impacted all planets for millions of years before man existed.   For example, current climate changes on Jupiter  are being observed and modeled by a leading expert in atmospheric dynamics.  Before man ever stood upright, the earth has gone through ice ages and warming cycles, both large and small.  Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide (CO2) levels, the assumed culprit of the so-called “Greenhouse Effect,” have exceeded 1500 parts per million (ppm)  during periods when life on earth was sustained  in abundance. 

The present concentration of CO2 in our atmosphere is a mere 380 ppm , comprising only 0.038% of atmospheric gasses, the overwhelming source of which is the earth’s oceans.  Man’s contribution (referred to as Anthropogenic CO2) to overall content is in dispute even among the most devout Global Warming theory believers, with their estimates ranging 2.03% to 5.53% of the total.  Therefore, using their highest estimate and rounding up to 6% only 0.00228% of atmospheric CO2 could be contributed to human activity.  Even data from their revered Vostok ice core samples,  analyzed to supposedly provide over 400,000 years of atmospheric CO2, temperature and dust content prove there have been natural CO2 swings that corresponded to natural temperature swings in the earth’s climate history before the first man ever walked the face of the earth, with highs and lows fairly consistent over the studied period with any differences in those changes being statistically insignificant, even over the relatively short period of  the earth’s existence covered by the sample .   Why then is the Left so religiously devoted to a scientific theory that has yet to pass the last two steps of the scientific method?  The answer to this question is evident; regardless of whether the Left claims the climate is cooling or warming, their “solutions” and desired ends are always the same—bigger government, less individual freedom, forced redistribution of wealth, movement away from oil and coal, fewer humans and fewer animals.

First, those Liberals who believe in wealth redistribution are ecstatic with Global Warming theory since every remedy seeks to steal wealth from wealthy nations and peoples and redistribute it to underdeveloped nations and poorer peoples.  As Desmond Tutu recently revealed in an October 22, 2009 USA Today Opinion Editorial entitled, Unity Doomed Apartheid.  Next up:  Climate Change,    “…Africa would not only demand fair compensation for climate change from the countries that caused the problem, but would also demand that rich nations cut emissions and hold global warming down to as few degrees as humanly possible”.   Tutu sees this wealth redistribution as punishment for those nations that supposedly caused the non-existent Global Warming phenomena through their selfishly unrestrained economic development.  Tutu goes on to blame Global Warming for the ongoing drought in Kenya, insinuating that Kenya has never before experienced such droughts.  However a newly released book by R.W. NDichu on the subject, The Most Devastating Famines in East Africa in the Last 1700 Years, describes droughts that have occurred cyclically with equal intensity to today’s since the year 300 AD.  Droughts and changes in regional and global climate have been common throughout the earth’s most recent history.  In fact it was Climate Change that caused the Ancient Egyptian Nile Delta  to turn from an agricultural Mecca into a dessert plain , thousands of years before man built factories, drilled for oil or invented automobiles.  At that time Egyptians blamed their Sun God, Ra, but today they blame each other since there is more money in blaming wealthier nations.  To the Ancient Egyptians’ credit, it was far more scientifically accurate to blame something related to the sun than it is for today’s false prophets of doom to blame human activity for such a climate change.

Second, the vehicle of such wealth redistribution will of course be large centralized governments and eventually a large centralized world government, a great boon for those Leftists who long for such government control and eventually one-world government.  Former Margaret Thatcher aide, Lord Christopher Monkcton, recently made a compelling case  that one world government is the goal of the United Nations in their push for a climate change treaty.  The signing of such a treaty will cause member nations to lose national sovereignty and cause its people to lose individual freedom and personal property rights.  If signed and ratified by the Senate in the United States, a United Nations climate change treaty will supersede our constitutional rights in those areas covered by the treaty.  Since the U.S. is the biggest target of such a treaty, it would have the most to lose with its citizens experiencing the most dramatic decreases in prosperity and standard of living of any in the world, meeting the stated goal of world Socialists.  These Leftists are the same ones who lionize every third world dictator that overturns their countries’ constitutions and turns the government into a fascist regime as we have seen in Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and other nations.

Third, the Left’s militant environmentalists have embraced the pseudo science of Global Warming as a means to cease coal, oil and natural gas production.   Their duplicitous and incessant whining keeps 70% of America’s energy rich lands off limits to exploration while they complain America is too dependent on foreign countries for energy.   Militant environmentalists have viewed such traditional sources of power as contributing the most to pollution despite the fact their extraction technologies have advanced significantly and now contribute little to overall pollution.  

Fourth, the Anti-War Left not only believes America has become too imperialistic and needs to be cut down to size, but they also believe that oil has become the main reason for wars fought around the globe.  Anti-war Leftists believe both the Iraq  and Afghanistan  wars are being fought for oil.  Accordingly, they embrace Global Warming as a means to neuter the U.S. and rid the world’s reliance on oil to eliminate it as a reason for war.

Fifth, Animal Rights groups and militant Vegans wish to utilize the Global Warming movement to eliminate America’s demand for meat, a reason why congressional legislation includes a tax on livestock due to their gaseous emissions.  They believe that if the tax is high enough on livestock, meat will be too expensive resulting in a decrease in demand that will push livestock farmers out of business.  Additionally they see Global Warming as an excuse to protect more species from man by eliminating cattle farming and other human activities around habitats.  The extremism of these groups has entered the spotlight with California farmers’ latest battle  to gain sufficient water for crops and livestock during a national recession.  The Leftists sided with a smelt fish over California’s beleaguered farmers.

Sixth are the leftist Population Control nuts—those who believe human beings are the root of all evil, that we are breeding beyond our ability to sustain ourselves.  The over population movement began with Thomas Malthus, who was wrong for his time, and continues with Leftist darling Paul Ehrlich, who has yet to be right about anything.  Ehrlich wrote a book in the 1970s, “The Population Bomb” which paints human beings as the root of all evil and destruction in the world, then goes about recommending how big Governments should control populations by any means possible, including the sterilization of its populations via the water supply.  Ehrlich, an eternal pessimist, is the same guy that accepted and lost a bet with now deceased economist Julian Simon, a bet now universally known simply as “The Wager”.   After Ehrlich was touting his doomsday scarcity theories, Simon offered Ehrlich pick any five precious metals and five years later the price on those metals would be lower.  Simon won on all five counts.  There was subsequent whining by Ehrlich that the metals did not represent renewable resources that are being depleted.  However, if one examines renewable resources over the same period and even to present day, the same could be said about them.  Even before adjusting for inflation most town and city water is cheaper, there are more and thicker forests to the point they are causing fire problems in the western U.S., arable lands are still in abundance even though considerably less arable land is needed to sustain larger populations due to technology.  A case of bottled water today costs far less than it did in the 1980s, so do vegetables, beef products, oil, gasoline, electronic equipment and natural gas.  What Ehrlich has always failed to recognize is the ingenuity, creativeness and innovation of individuals participating in the free market.  There is one scenario under which Ehrlich’s dark visions would have come to fruition, and that is under a socialist/fascist form of government—Ehrlich’s preferred form.

Last but not least are the America Haters—those who reject the concept of American Exceptionalism-the principle that the United States has a unique mission, that it’s to serve as a “shining city on a hill”, a vision coined by the first Pilgrims and understood by every American throughout our history, that America serves as a beacon of hope and freedom for citizens of every nation around the world longing for true freedom.  American haters instead maintain that America has been an immoral nation since before its founding and they are embarrassed that we have been the most prosperous country in the history of the world and refuse to see that the U.S. has been the instrument of unprecedented freedom and economic prosperity for the entire civilized world.  This brand of Leftists seek to use Global Warming as a vehicle to strip America of its economic and military power and prestige.  Unfortunately, America’s current president, Barrack Obama, has repeatedly revealed he is squarely in this camp, for example during one of his “Apologize for America” world tour appearances a reporter inquired of Mr. Obama why he was unwilling to discuss American exceptionalism.  Mr. Obama’s telling response, “I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism…”-in other words, not at all.  On a recent news clip, an immigrant was asked what he thought of America and he responded, “In America we have opportunities and freedoms here unlike any nation.  We are free to pursue our dreams.  America is a unique country”.  It is a sad testament when a new immigrant has a better understanding of American exceptionalism than our own president.

The only Leftist group currently left out in the cold with Global Warming legislation is the Anti-Nuclear crowd.  In the beginning the Left tried hard to include their interests, but it did not take long for thinking Americans to realize that if clean power is the issue, then Nuclear plants provide the cleanest, most efficient means of powering a nation the size of the United States to economic growth and prosperity.  Despite predating all other power sources in their use, Windmill and Solar technology is still woefully inadequate to provide the power to sustain any appreciable economic growth and activity in a country the size of the United States.  Although nuclear power is the best vehicle to deliver what these Leftists want, they have an irrational fear of anything “nuclear” and it is only a matter of time before the Left concocts some irrational excuse for excluding its future use.
 
Despite the hype about the climate, much of what we are being fed by the Left and the media in regard to this concocted “crisis” is outright false.  Since 1998, the average global temperature has been decreasing, not increasing.  Polar ice was more vast in 2008 and 2009 than it was in 2007.

The polar bear population has doubled since the 1970s and is increasing.  The latest push by the Left is to claim 350 ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere is the ideal CO2 content.  This is absolutely absurd and cannot be supported by any scientific method particularly in light of the fact the earth’s atmosphere has historically contained over four times that amount while sustaining life.   In fact, new findings by MIT Climate Scientist, Dr. Richard Lindzen completely dispels the myth that CO2 is the basis for climate change.  Lindzen’s findings show Earth’s climate to be six times less sensitive to such things as solar variations, volcanic eruptions, cloudcover fluctuations or changes in the concentration of greenhouse gases.  Of course, the global Socialists are doing their best to bury Dr. Lindzen’s findings. 

So if the Climate really isn’t warming, and the CO2 content of the atmosphere is not even close to reaching levels dangerous to life forms, then why is Global Warming being treated as such a crisis?  One needs to look no further than the motives of the groups and people pushing this movement of fear and crisis as reflected in Desmond Tutu’s OpEd to understand that it has little to do about climate change and has more to do with getting even with America.  It is being reported that developing nations are seeking several hundred million dollars each year to "combat" climate change.  Sure, that should cool us all down.
